The Municipality of Victoria County’s goal for communications during the Covid-19 pandemic is to inform our residents, business owners and the greater community about any municipal impacts from this global event.

Our main priority is the health and safety of our staff and all residents of the Municipality of the County of Victoria.

Since earlier this week, the administration of the municipality has been operating under a Pandemic Preparedness plan. Delivery of essential services is a main concern. Non-essential services may be restricted in order to focus on providing the most necessary services to our community. During this time, we are following the advice and guidance of provincial and local public health officials who have the expertise to assess the level of health risk posed by a specific situation.

Municipal Operations Updates

As of Saturday, March 21, 2020:

• Transfer Stations in Baddeck and Dingwall are closed to the public. Only businesses and municipal collection vehicles will be given access to the sites. Residents are to use curbside collection services.
• Both Transfer station hours (effective immediately) are Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm.
• The Courthouse and all municipal offices are closed to the public. Property tax payments and water payments can be made online or by Canada Post.
• The Tax sale planned for March 24, 2020 is postponed. Once a new date is decided, it will be posted at www.victoriacounty.com and in local newspapers.
• The volunteer awards dinner planned for April is cancelled.
• The council session for March 23, 2020 is cancelled. A decision on April council sessions will be made in the days to come.
• Items for the ReUse Centre will not be accepted until further notice.
• Water Utility operation will continue as normal, but staff will be minimizing public interactions.
• Victoria County Transit has suspended operations as of Friday March 20, 2020.

As per public health officials, if you develop a fever, with a temperature of 38⁰C or higher, or a cough, please contact 811 for an assessment. If you need in-person assessment, 811 will refer you to a centre. Don’t go to an assessment centre unless 811 referred you.
