Expression of Interest – Finance and Audit Committee Member

The Municipality of Victoria County is seeking an individual from the community to serve as a member on its Finance and Audit Committee for a two-year term. The Committee carries out a detailed review of the financial statements with the auditor, reviews and recommends approval of the annual budget, and acts for Council in a financial oversight role.

Membership on the Committee is duly appointed by Council annually pursuant to Section 44(1) of the Municipal Government Act. We welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds and encourage interested persons to self-identify.

Requirements and criteria include:

• Satisfactory police check (paid for by the Municipality)
• Be independent (not related to a member of council or to an employee of the municipality) with no conflicts of interest
• Resident of the Municipality of Victoria County
• Strong financial backgrounds and able to comprehend complex financial and regulatory processes
• General understanding of the Municipality’s economic, operating, and financial risks
• Be willing to challenge management when necessary
• Preferably a member of a professional accounting association

Letters of application will be accepted on an on-going basis. Letters of application should include a brief biography of the individual and information on skills or assets that will be useful to the Committee. Experience with municipal government will be considered an asset. Applicants must provide two professional and/or volunteer related references with their application. The Committee meets around 6 times per year.
