Active Living & Recreation

Active Living is a critical component of health, well-being, and healthy communities. Recreation can encompass the use of parks, trails, beaches, facilities, fields, youth programs, sport programming, culture and heritage, and more.  Supporting active living & recreation is a preventative measure Victoria County takes to reduce the factors that negatively impact the health of our communities. Having fun and enjoying recreational activities are important; we must also address the seriousness of physical inactivity and the link to chronic disease and the roles that isolation and struggles with mental health have in leading an inactive lifestyle. Through education and community engagement we can raise awareness and provide opportunities tailored to the needs and interests of our unique and resilient communities. Healthy communities are active communities, we must provide the proper support and resources for our residents to create accessible spaces and to target residents in the places they live, work, and play. Recreation & Active Living strives to focus on the overall health and well-being of our communities by focusing on physical and mental health, social connection, proximity to nature, and arts, culture, and heritage.
