The municipality is offering a one-time property tax installment program for owners of residential and commercial properties negatively affected by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
You qualify if you are the owner of:
• a residential property that is your primary residence and you have experienced a significant reduction in income due to the State of Emergency;
• a residential property where you are a registered Tourism Operator with Tourism Nova Scotia for the 2019 tourist season (excludes AirBNBs and other accommodations marketing platforms);
• a residential property that is rented to one or more tenants, and you have experienced a significant reduction in rental income from the property due to the State of Emergency;
• taxable commercial properties (shopping, office, industrial, farm) who have experienced financial hardship through loss of revenue related to the State of Emergency

Please note: Payment is deemed to be made on the date the cheque is received in the Tax Department not on the date of mailing. Payments received after the due date will incur penalty/interest charges.

Our responsibility is to forward the tax bill to the property owner as it appears on the assessment of the current year. If you have purchased a property or have changed your address, please contact the tax office to update us regarding this change. If you have not received a tax bill, please contact the Tax Department at 902-295-3231.

Residential - $1.22
Commercial - $2.12
Resource Property - $1.22
Residential - Village of Baddeck Area Rate - 0.21
Commercial - Village of Baddeck Area Rate - 0.25
Fire Protection Area Rate - .075
Residential - 1.22 (County) + .21 (Village Tax Rate) + .075 (Fire Protection) = 1.505
Commerical - 2.12 (County) + .25 (Village Tax Rate) + .075 (Fire Protection = 2.445
Please Note: Village of Baddeck Area Rates are added to County rates.
Interest charges will be added to installments not paid by due date at the rate of 0.83% on the first day of each month in which default continues.
