Free Outdoor Training Career Program

Outward Bound Canada Training Academy Opportunity

A federally funded training program is now available for residents of Nova Scotia who are interested in pursing a career in the outdoors.

There are two levels of training in Nova Scotia being offered and operated by Outward Bound Canada Training Academy for Outdoor Professions. The hands-on sea kayak training happens near Bridgewater, Nova Scotia at Cape LaHave Adventures, on Dublin Shore.

The programs are delivered through workshops, outdoor journeys and through virtual learning mentorship and certification. No previous experience is necessary and it’s open to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents 18 years or older. Applications are now open for the programs offered in 2024.

Available Training Programs:

  1. Atlantic Canada Foundations Level Program – Comprised of three Learning Modules and an optional 5-day Outdoor Journey – you will learn the skills and foundational knowledge to begin on your path to becoming an outdoor leader, instructor or facilitator. No previous experience is necessary.
  2. Nova Scotia Essentials Level Program – This program is geared towards individuals who have some outdoor leadership experience or training who are wanting to expand their skill set to work in the outdoors. Participants will have an opportunity to pursue outdoor certifications.

The Municipality of the County of Victoria recognizes these programs provide an excellent opportunity for interested participants. As a Victoria County residents, you may be eligible to receive assistance to cover the cost of travel.
