7 Victoria County Councillors Sworn-in

Seven Victoria County Councillors were sworn into office on October 30, 2024. From Left to Right: Councillor for District 6 – Tim Donovan, Councillor for District 7 – Jackie Organ, Councillor for District 5 – Fraser Patterson, Councillor for District 4 – Rosella Born, Councillor for District 2 – Perla MacLeod, Councillor for District 3 – Jess Kerr, and Councillor for District 1 – Donna Matheson-LeFort.

The elected Councillors were sworn-in during a special meeting of council and ceremony held at the Municipal Building in Baddeck on October 30, 2024. The Councillor for District 8 remains undetermined, as we are waiting for a court date and re-count, as two candidates received the same amount of votes for District 8 Councillor.

The swearing-in ceremony opened with the singing of the National Anthem by two members of the Baddeck Academy Choir, Maya and Ruby. Jeff Ward then gave a Unama’ki recognition, prayer and performed the Native Welcome Song.

A moment of silence was taken to remember those who served who are no longer with us.

Members of the public, family, friends, elected officials, County staff and former Council members were in attendance for the ceremony.

Returning Officer, Blair Gallop, gave the Declaration of Election Results.

The seven successful candidates then gave their Oath of Allegiance and of Office and signed the Code of Conduct for elected officials in the Municipality of the County of Victoria.

Please join us in welcoming our 2024-2028 Victoria County Councillors. The successful candidate for District 8 will be announced and sworn-in following the process for resolving the tie in that race.
