Baddeck Multi-Use Trail Extension Opens to the Public

A new parking area and section of multi-use trail is now open to the public. The new section extends the existing trail from Baddeck and across the Trans-Canada Highway to beyond the Baddeck Transfer Station on Old Margaree Road and creates a nearly four-kilometre trail route.  

This is an exciting milestone in Victoria County’s ongoing work to develop a connected and sustainable trails network.  

“Trails are an important part of life in Victoria County,” said Perla MacLeod, Deputy Warden. “They provide opportunities for residents and visitors to be active and enjoy the outdoors, while also supporting tourism and economic development and helping connect our rural communities.”  

The new section of trail and parking area is one piece of a much larger vision for trails in the County. Developing a connected trail system takes time, planning and collaboration. Victoria County has been working with community organizations and trail user groups to identify opportunities and develop a coordinated approach to trails. 

As the County continues to develop its trails network, each new section brings us closer to a connected system that supports active living, community connections and economic opportunity. The trail is another step toward the future of trails in Victoria County. 

Trail Safety 

While this trail is now open for public use, some sections require additional surface work and include rough terrain. All users are asked to use caution and travel according to the conditions. 

The trail also crosses the entrance to the Baddeck Waste Management Facility, where vehicles operate regularly. Trail users must follow all posted signs and stop at road crossings. Please be alert and give vehicles the right of way. 

Accessing the Trail 

The trail can be accessed from two locations: 

• At the rear of the Baddeck Curling Club, located at 28 Jessica Wong Lane.  
• From the new parking area adjacent to the Baddeck Waste Management Facility at 445 Old Margaree Road.  

From the new parking are on Old Margaree Road, registered off-highway vehicle users are permitted to turn left and travel northwest for 2.73 km on Old Margaree Road and continue north on West Side Baddeck Road for 1.73 km to access the trail leading toward the Highlands.
