The Victoria County Council met via Zoom on Monday, May 3, 2021.

  • Council met prior to the regular council session to discuss Tax Collection strategies.
  • It is expected council will approve the 2021-2022 budget in the next month. From this, tax rates will be determined. At present, property tax rates are $1.22 for residential and $2.12 for commercial properties.
  • Terry Smith, CEO of Destination Cape Breton spoke about that organization’s long term development strategy.
  • With the recent lockdown, many community clean-ups have been postponed or cancelled. But this didn’t stop residents of Neil’s Harbour and the North Shore. They reached out to their councillor who provided them with bags & gloves. These residents, still within their bubbles, went for walks and along the way, gathered litter from the ditches in their communities. Well done!

Council minutes are posted on the Victoria County website, once approved by council. Find more council minutes here: victoriacounty.com/government/municipal-council/meeting-minutes/.
