November 22, 2024

Returning Officer Blair Gallop, Victoria County CAO MacEachen, and candidates Wanda Hennick and Amy MacKinnon were in Provincial Court at the Sydney Courthouse at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024 for the District 8 recount process.

The election results were regenerated by the returning officer and the results were observed by Judge MacRury, the candidates present and the CAO. On examination, the tie was certified by Judge MacRury as correct.

After a recess, Judge MacRury ordered a draw by lot as required by the Municipal Elections Act to determine who would be the new councillor. The names of the tied candidates were written on two pieces of paper. Under observation by the judge, the papers were placed into a box.

CAO MacEachen chose the returning officer to select a name from the box at that time. Returning Officer, Blair Gallop drew Wanda Hennick’s name from the box. The Judge declared Wanda Hennick elected by lot, pursuant to section 138 of the Municipal Elections Act of Nova Scotia.

The signed order and certification by Judge MacRury is provided below. Please join us in welcome Wanda Hennick to Victoria County Council as Councillor for District 8.
