Victoria County Council has accepted the resignation of District 3 Councillor Jess Kerr. Councillor Kerr, who was first elected in October 2024, formally stepped down from his seat for personal reasons.
His resignation was announced during the February 2026 Council meeting, where Warden Organ read a letter submitted by Councillor Kerr.
On behalf of Council and staff, Warden Organ acknowledged Councillor Kerr’s service and contributions to the Municipality of the County of Victoria.
“Councillor Kerr has demonstrated dedication to his constituents and to the broader community during his time on Council,” said Warden Organ. “We thank him for his commitment to public service and wish him all the best.”
In accordance with the Municipal Government Act of Nova Scotia, Council has declared the District 3 seat vacant and will proceed with a by-election to fill the position.
The Municipal Clerk will formally report the vacancy to the Nova Scotia Department of Municipal Affairs and prepare a report to Council outlining the process and timelines required to fill the vacancy.
Further details regarding the by-election process will be shared through Victoria County’s official communication channels as they become available.
In the interim, Warden Jackie Organ will represent constituents in District 3. The Warden will hold office hours from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. on March 2, May 4 and June 1 at the Municipal Administration Building in Baddeck (495 Chebucto Street) to meet with constituents from District 3.
