Help Shape the Future of Victoria County: Community Members Wanted for Municipal Committees

The Municipality of the County of Victoria is looking for residents who are passionate about their communities to serve on two important advisory committees: the Housing Committee and the Planning Advisory Committee.

These committees provide valuable advice to Municipal Council on issues that will help shape the future of Victoria County. Community members bring local knowledge, professional expertise, and lived experience to the table, helping ensure decisions reflect the needs and priorities of residents.

Housing Committee

Housing is one of the most significant challenges facing communities across Nova Scotia. Victoria County’s new Housing Committee will advise Council on local housing needs, opportunities, and strategies that support future housing development and investment.

The Committee will focus on research, planning, collaboration, and policy development while working with Council, municipal staff, community organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders to help create conditions that encourage housing growth throughout the Municipality.

The Municipality is seeking up to four community members who are full-time residents of Victoria County. Applications are encouraged from individuals with experience, knowledge, or interest in areas such as:

• Housing development and residential construction
• Building trades and construction management
• Property development and real estate
• Affordable housing
• Seniors’ services and aging-in-place
• Community planning and land use
• Economic development
• Non-profit and community development
• Social services and housing supports
• Finance or investment related to housing
• Infrastructure, engineering, or project management

Residents with lived experience and a strong interest in improving local housing are also encouraged to apply.

The Housing Committee meets at least quarterly and serves in an advisory capacity to Municipal Council.

Planning Advisory Committee

The Municipality is also seeking up to four community members to serve on the Planning Advisory Committee.

This Committee advises Municipal Council on land use planning matters, including the Municipal Planning Strategy, Land Use By-law, subdivision regulations, heritage conservation, and other planning initiatives that guide future growth and development throughout Victoria County.

The Committee also serves as the Municipality’s Heritage Advisory Committee under the Municipal Government Act.

Applications are welcome from all full-time residents of Victoria County. Preference may be given to individuals with education or experience in areas such as:

• Community or municipal planning
• Land use planning
• Architecture
• Engineering
• Heritage conservation
• Environmental planning
• Surveying or GIS
• Development and construction
• Economic development
• Transportation planning
• Community development

The Committee generally meets quarterly, with additional meetings as required.
