Ingonish Wastewater Collection and Treatment System – Property Owner Surveys Now Arriving

Posted on:
April 23, 2025

Following the Community Information Session regarding the Wastewater Collection and Treatment System in Ingonish, Victoria County Council wants to regauge the level of interest among property owners in connecting to the system. Surveys have been mailed to residents in the Wastewater Collection and Treatment System catchment area.

These surveys will inform the final route of the collection lines. Responses will help us understand which properties are interested in connecting to the system. Even if you’re not sure about connecting right away, fill out the survey so that your property can be considered in the planning process.

Background and Quick Facts:

  • All current sewage treatment in the community uses on-site systems of different types and ages.
  • The estimated total cost of the proposed project is about $14.6 million.
  • In 2019, the County began applying for funding for this project from both the federal and provincial governments. In March 2024, the County received $7.3 million in funding from the Province of Nova Scotia through the Municipal Capital Growth Program, specifically for this project.
  • The County started consultations with a survey sent to residents in the Wastewater Collection and Treatment System area in the Spring of 2024.
  • Results from the first survey were shared with Council. Based on the number of positive responses from landowners—both residential and commercial— Council decided to move forward with the plan to serve as many interested properties as possible, within the approved budget.
  • This Spring 2025 survey will help determine the final route of the Wastewater Collection and Treatment System. The route will be designed based on the positive responses we receive, those who respond “yes” will have a higher chance of being able to connect to the system.

Deadline to Submit: May 9, 2025

To ensure your response is counted, please return your completed survey by mail to Victoria County no later than May 9.
