Many residents have shared questions and concerns about the formalization of an agreement between the Village and the Municipality.
In March, representatives from both the Village and the Municipality met with a neutral facilitator to begin discussions toward a renewed relationship and a long-term agreement. Attendees included Warden Organ, Deputy Warden MacLeod, Commissioner Whyte, Commissioner Crowder, and staff from both governments.
While the Village’s April 9 meeting minutes suggest sidewalk maintenance was the main focus, the conversation went well beyond that. Topics included budgeting, capital planning, and shared services.
Since that meeting, the Municipality has been waiting for a formal proposal from the Village, including a five-year capital plan and supporting documentation. Without that information, we cannot take the next steps toward a formal agreement.
The Municipality remains ready to move ahead with a clear and coordinated path forward.
We know there’s been frustration on all sides, and we believe it’s important to keep the conversation open. The Village of Baddeck’s Annual General Meeting on June 23. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and hear updates directly from the Village and its Commissioners.
