Coordinated renewed effort by Victoria County and Wagmatcook First Nation proves successful

Following numerous serious collisions and a twenty-year concerted effort to lobby the Provincial Government to reduce the posted speed at a dangerous stretch of highway west of Baddeck, the Provincial Government has finally agreed.

On November 7th, 2023, in response to a joint letter sent in early summer by Victoria County Warden Bruce Morrison and Wagmatcook First Nation Chief Norman Bernard to Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston requesting an immediate speed limit reduction, Public Works Minister Kim Masland responded on the Premier’s behalf.

The province has agreed to lower the posted speed limit from 80 kilometres an hour to 70 kilometres an hour. The speed reduction is expected to occur soon.

This speed reduction is an important step for the safety and wellbeing for Victoria County residents and Wagmatcook First Nation residents as well as the visitors to our area.”
