Wilderness First Aid Training Program

The Municipality of the County of Victoria is supporting five residents to receive Red Cross skill development and safety in a wilderness environment.

The training program “Wilderness Remote First-Aid” is being offered in mid-June. Victoria County will cover 50% of the registration fees for eligible residents.

What: Wilderness Remote First Aid Training Support

Where: North River Kayak Tours, St. Ann’s Bay, Cape Breton

Who: Support will be provided to the first five residents from Victoria County who register

When: Friday, June 14 to Sunday, June 16, 2024 (20 hrs over three days)

Schedule:

Friday, June 14: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Saturday, June 15: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. BREAK 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 16: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Total Cost: $349.00 + 15.00% HST

The first five residents to register, will be eligible to receive the 50% discount (first come, first serve). Once their address has been verified as being in Victoria County, the 50% discount will be applied to the registration fee.

About the Course

The Wilderness First-Aid Program is an enhanced Standard First Aid program, designed to meet the demands of remote environments. It’s suitable for individuals who live or work in non-urban, remote or wilderness workplaces or communities.

Key Learning Concepts:

  • Planning, prevention, and situational awareness
  • Wound care
  • Environmental emergencies

Participants learn skills and strategies for providing care in a remote setting for up to 24 hours. Please see the document below for detailed course information and what to bring to the workshop.
