Your Municipality, Your Community: Get Involved

What makes Victoria County a great place to live, work and play? It’s the people, the communities we build together and the ideas that help us move forward.

Residents have an important role in shaping the future of their communities. Getting involved doesn’t mean you need to know everything about local government or attend every Council meeting. It can be as simple as asking a question, sharing an idea, raising a concern or learning more about a decision that affects your community.

Your Ideas Can Make a Difference

Have an idea for improving local recreation opportunities? Is there a community project that could benefit from municipal support? Have you identified an opportunity to strengthen tourism, attract investment or bring people together?

Sharing these ideas helps Council and municipal staff better understand local needs and opportunities. Residents bring valuable knowledge and perspectives that can help inform decisions, identify priorities and shape future initiatives.

Not every idea will fall directly within municipal authority, but raising it can help identify potential solutions, partnerships or opportunities to advocate to other levels of government.

Find Your Way to Get Involved

There are several ways to participate in local government and help move community ideas forward.

  • Attend a Council meeting. Hear discussions, learn about current issues and follow decisions that affect your community.
  • Present to Council. Residents and community groups can explore opportunities to bring forward a project, proposal or community concern. Contact the municipal office to learn about the process and scheduling.
  • Join a municipal committee. Contribute your knowledge, experience and ideas to specific municipal issues and initiatives. Watch for opportunities to participate.
  • Connect with your Councillor. Share local concerns, ask questions and discuss ideas through your Councillor’s Facebook page or the contact information available on the Municipality’s website.
  • Follow Council’s work. Read meeting agendas and minutes, watch livestreams and recordings on the municipal YouTube Channel, and check out the ICYMI: Council Meeting Recap after each meeting.
  • Sign up for Victoria County E-Newsletter. Get the latest news summary delivered to your inbox daily, weekly or both!

Your Community, Your Voice

You don’t need a fully developed proposal to start a conversation. Sometimes, one question or one idea can be the beginning of something meaningful.

This Municipal Awareness Week, take a few minutes to connect with your Councillor, explore an upcoming Council meeting or think about an opportunity that could benefit your community and share it!

Victoria County is your community. Stay informed, get involved and help shape what comes next.
