Recycling Programs

These resources are available to residents free of charge, to dispose of items not included in curbside collection. Not all of these resources are available to businesses.

Nova Scotia’s Deposit-Refund Program came into effect in 1996. The Program applies to most ready-to-serve beverage containers purchased in Nova Scotia. It is managed by Divert NS.

Refundable bottles can be brought to:

  • Jim Bradley Recycling Depot (Baddeck)
  • New Haven Recycling Depot

This program is run by Electronic Products Recycling Association (EPRA) and is designed to manage unwanted electronic products that have exhausted their reuse potential.

End-of-life electronics can be disposed of safely at:

  • Baddeck Transfer Station
  • Dingwall Transfer Station

Clothing, textiles, and shoes are all accepted for reuse and recycling. Even odd socks, old towels, or items with holes and stains are eligible.

Unwanted or worn-out passenger tires must be removed from rims and under 24.5” in size. This program is run by Divert NS.

Passenger tires can be disposed of at:

  • Baddeck Transfer Station
  • Dingwall Transfer Station

Paint cans must be intact with legible labels. This program is run by Product Care Recycling.

Used paint and stain (with exceptions) can be brought to:

Used motor oil, filters, and glycol are recycled by Used Oil Management Association.

They can be disposed of at:

Compact fluorescent lightbulbs and tubes contain mercury.

Residents can safely dispose of these by visiting:

All single-use and rechargeable household batteries are accepted to allow for proper disposal and recycling. This program is led by Call2Recycle.

There are two ENVIRO-DEPOT™ recycling facilities within the Municipality of the County of Victoria, located in Baddeck and New Haven. Our ENVIRO-DEPOTs offer refundable recycling services and are paint and electronics drop-off centres.

Deposit Refund Program for Beverage Containers

Nova Scotia’s Deposit-Refund Program came into effect in 1996. The Program applies to most ready-to-serve beverage containers purchased in Nova Scotia. Beverage containers that are accepted for refund include gable top and tetra pak beverage cartons, glass bottles and plastic beverage containers, steel and aluminum beverage cans and refillable beer bottles.

The following items are not eligible for deposit-refund

  • Milk or milk products
  • Soya and rice drinks
  • Certain meal replacements
  • Formulated liquid diets
  • Baby formulas
  • Beverage concentrates

Fundraising for Not for Profit Groups

Interested in raising funds for your organization at the Victoria County Recycling Depots?

We choose Victoria County not-for-profits for Our Charity of the Month. If your group is selected, we will contact you with the dates that the Jim Bradley Recycling Depot (Baddeck) or New Haven Recycling Depot will be collecting refundables for your group. This selection is done once a year in December.
