But please make sure its coiled and bound!

Victoria County is working in collaboration with Coastal Action and Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada to accept fishing rope for recycling at the end of its useful life, rather than it being sent to landfill.

Please Note: All fishing rope being brought to our waste management facilities must be coiled and bound.  Loose rope will not be accepted.

Working in partnership, this effort seeks to prevent, reduce, and assess the impacts of ghost gear on Cape Breton Island (Lobster Fishing Area 27) and other areas of Atlantic Canada. In 2023-24 the program successfully retrieved ghost gear from targeted areas, both at sea and along shorelines, and supported the development of waste management systems for the responsible disposal of end-of-life gear.

A notice from the category Waste Management stating that coiled and bound fishing rope is now accepted for recycling at Victoria County facilities.
