Community Placemaking

Placemaking is both a process and a philosophy.

It is centred around observing, listening to, and asking questions of the people who live, work, and play in a particular space in order to understand their needs and aspirations for that space and for their community as a whole.

Victoria County has embarked on a Community Placemaking initiative as part of the municipality’s Community Development support. Building on the groundbreaking ideas introduced by Jane Jacobs and William H. Whyte in the 1960s about designing communities for people, not just cars and businesses.

This project will be ongoing over the upcoming years and Community Engagement Sessions are being planned for five communities this summer and details of each can be found in here in our Municipal Calendar.
