The Municipality of the County of Victoria and the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) are partnering to offer a free Safe Sharps Drop-Off Event for residents, businesses, and community groups.

The event provides a convenient local option for safely disposing of used needles and other sharps, including those that may have been stored for an extended period.

Event Details

Date: Monday, November 9, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Location: Baddeck Volunteer Fire Department
Address: 14 Water Street, Baddeck
Cost: Free
Weather: The event will take place rain or shine.

What Can You Bring?

Accepted items include used needles, syringes, lancets, and other medical sharps.

Sharps do not need to be stored in a designated sharps disposal container. They may be brought in another suitable receptacle, provided the contents are safely contained and the receptacle can safely hold the sharps.

How Does the Drop-Off Work?

Participants will bring their safely contained sharps to the collection vehicle at the event location. Staff will be available to direct participants through the drop-off process.

Participants are responsible for placing their own containers into the collection vehicle. Staff will not handle individual needles or sharps containers brought by participants.

CBRM will manage the collection, transportation, and final disposal of the sharps through its existing disposal arrangements.

Help Keep Waste Collection Workers Safe

Needles and other sharps can cause serious injuries when placed in regular garbage or recycling bags. Proper containment and disposal help protect waste collection workers and others in our community.

If you have accumulated used sharps at home or discovered them while cleaning out a property, this free event provides an opportunity to dispose of them safely.
